• Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, where antibodies destroy the insulin producing beta-langerhands cells in the pancreas

• Lack of insulin causes and inability to move sugar from the blood into the cells, causing starvation, break down of fats and the acidity this results in causes DKA

• Diagnosis:  hyperglycaemia + ketones/ weight loss/ young age / low BMI/ FH diabetes or AI disease

• Management: insulin
