• Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is the collective term for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC)

• IBD is caused by inflammation in the bowel- Crohn's causes deep lesions anywhere across the alimentary canal and UC superficial inflammation in the colon

• Diagnosis - clinical: history, examination, investigations- inflammation on colonic biopsies (colonoscopy)

• Management: acutely- steroids, LT- steroid sparing immune modulating drugs (e.g. mabs- infliximab)
