NAFLD (non alcoholic fatty liver disease) describes hepatic injury in the absence of alcohol excess, presumed to be from obesity/ metabolic causes
Presentation: obese individual with ALT > AST transaminitis, asymptomatic
Diagnosis: steatosis, ALT > AST & absence of cause (e.g. alcohol)
Management: weight loss- lifestyle, liraglutide, surgery
Name for same condition: MAFLD.
Part of the metabolic syndrome: obesity, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, T2DM
