Follicular thyroid carcinoma Management

• Thyroidectomy

• 4-6w post op radio-iodine

  • Can be repeated till nil further radio-isotope uptake

• Advanced disease

  • Locally advanced- radiotherapy

  • Cisplatin, doxorubicin

Single 'Toxic' Nodule

• Presentation: hyperthyroidism

• Isotope scan: focal iodine uptake

• Management: 

  1. Radio-iodine & avoid pregnancy for 12m

  2. Surgery (if thoracic outlet obstruction)
